How to use Instagram AI Background Editor

Enter Story Editing Screen: Once you’re in the Story editing screen, locate and tap on the “backdrop” button. This button is positioned to the left of the text button and is represented by an icon.

Choose or Create a Prompt: Tapping the backdrop button will automatically remove the background of your photo. A text box will appear for you to type a prompt for the AI. You can either choose from pre-set prompts like “surrounded by puppies” or “chased by dinosaurs,” or you can create your own custom prompt.

Select AI-Generated Background: After entering the prompt, the AI will generate a new background for your photo based on the text input. It may present you with multiple AI-generated backgrounds to choose from.

Post to Your Story: Once you’ve selected the background, proceed to post your Story. The AI-generated background will be applied to your image.

“Try It” Sticker: After posting, a “Try It” sticker will appear on the image you created. This sticker allows your friends and followers to easily try out the same text prompt and experience the AI-generated background.

Who can use Instagram AI Background Editor?

Instagram AI Background Editor feature is only available to users in the United States. The rollout of new features on any social media platform is often gradual, and it may take some time before the feature becomes accessible to all users worldwide.

If you are not in the United States or do not see the backdrop button in your Story editing screen, you may not have access to the feature at the moment. Keep an eye on updates from Instagram, as Meta will make the Instagram’s AI Editor feature available in other regions over time.

Pro Tips for using Instagram’s AI Editor

Explore Pre-Set Prompts: Experiment with the pre-set prompts provided by the AI Editor. These can offer creative and fun background options. Choose prompts that align with the theme or mood you want to convey in your Story.

Craft Custom Prompts: Instagram lets you create your own custom prompts. This allows you to have more control over the background generation process and tailor it to your unique style or storytelling preferences.

Using VPN: If you are outside US and do not have access to the new feature of Instagra, you can try using VPN to access the Instagram’s AI background editor. However, be aware that using VPNs to manipulate your location can violate platform terms of service, so proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Meta’s AI plan for 2024

Meta is making significant strides in integrating AI across its ecosystem, aiming to enhance user experiences and introduce innovative features. In the past year, Meta has tested over 20 new ways in which generative AI can improve interactions on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. This expansion covers areas such as search, social discovery, ads, business messaging, and more.

The evolution of Meta AI involves adding new features to messaging experiences while leveraging AI behind the scenes to power intelligent capabilities. In terms of transparency, Meta is introducing invisible watermarking to its “imagine with Meta AI” experience, enhancing traceability of AI-generated images.

An exciting development is the integration of Meta AI into the next-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, offering an integrated hands-free, on-the-go experience. Users can engage with the glasses using voice commands, and an early access program allows customers to test multimodal AI-powered capabilities, enabling the glasses to understand and respond to visual prompts.

Meta AI is being applied to various aspects, including creating AI-generated post comment suggestions, enhancing product copy in Shops, and powering standalone experiences like “imagine with Meta AI.” Users can now use AI to generate images collaboratively in group chats through features like “reimagine.” Additionally, Meta is exploring ways to use AI on Facebook for content creation, editing, and enhancing search capabilities.

For responsible AI development, Meta is incorporating invisible watermarking, red teaming, and ongoing user feedback to ensure safety, transparency, and continuous improvement in the AI experiences it offers.

Other social media platforms using AI

Recently, Snapchat released a similar AI feature where people can create AI images as snaps. Although the feature is only available to its premium users, it has been a successful launch and people are loving it. Moreover, X also released its AI chatbot, Grok AI which people are loving for its humorous responses.

Social media platforms are embracing AI, making efforts to introduce user-friendly AI features accessible to the general public, rather than just tech enthusiasts. If you currently have access to Instagram’s AI Background Editor, give it a try today. If not, rest assured that Instagram will make it available to everyone soon.
