Regulations on AI

AI will be facing regulatory revolution in 2024. After years of rapid progress with little oversight, governments will intervene to ensure AI is fair, transparent, and unbiased.

The EU’s AI Act will set the tone for the world. It will rank AI systems by risk and impose strict rules for high-risk ones in sectors like healthcare, finance, and law enforcement. The US will follow suit with its own frameworks.

The OECD predicts that global AI regulations will jump from 14 in 2020 to 50 by 2024. Data privacy laws like GDPR will also be reviewed and expanded. Controversial topics like facial recognition, algorithmic hiring, and autonomous weapons will spark intense debates.

Some fear that regulation will hamper innovation and competition. But the dangers of unregulated AI – such as biased algorithms and rogue weapons – are too serious to overlook. 2024 will be the year when AI moves from the sandbox to the courtroom, and accountability becomes paramount.

Generative AI in Search Engine

One of the most exciting AI Trend in 2024 will be the emergence of generative AI in search engines. Generative AI is a type of AI that can create new content from data, such as images, text, audio, and video. Search engines will use generative AI to enhance the user experience, by providing more information and context to queries, and allowing users to ask follow-up questions in a conversational mode. There are high chances that it will feature AI generated image, video or audio content to answer search queries.

Google is already testing a new feature called SGE (Search Generative Experience), which uses generative AI to give users AI-powered overviews and suggestions for their searches1. Users can also tap on suggested questions to enter a conversational mode, where they can ask Google more about the topic they are exploring, and get relevant web content and perspectives.

Other search engines, such as Bing, are also experimenting with generative AI in search, to help users with tasks like shopping, writing, and image generation. With generative AI in search, users will be able to access more information and insights, and process them more efficiently and creatively. Generative AI in search will transform the way we search and discover information online.

Development in Creativity

Expect a surge in multimodal collaboration. AI systems trained on vast datasets of text, code, music, and visuals will synergistically blend these elements, creating entirely new art forms. Imagine AI composing a symphony inspired by Van Gogh’s brushstrokes, or crafting a poem infused with the rhythm of rainfall and cityscapes.

Moreover, emotional intelligence will get a boost. AI will go beyond mimicking human emotions to understanding and expressing them with nuanced depth. This translates to stories that resonate on a deeper level, music that evokes specific feelings, and paintings that capture the very essence of human experience.

Also, by analyzing vast amounts of creative material across cultures and eras, AI will identify and generate novel combinations of existing ideas. This means unexpected yet strangely familiar art, tapping into a shared creative wellspring humanity never fully accessed before.

Lesser Jobs and More business

We saw that many companies are shifting towards AI for productivity. Many people lost their jobs to AI. However, believe it or not, only 4.6% of businesses in the world have adopted AI yet. As we enter into 2024, we will see this number increasing.

While manual jobs decline, new opportunities will emerge in AI development, management, and ethical oversight. People will resort to building their own businesses which will eventually lead to an increase in jobs again. So, while 2024 might see fewer openings in traditional sectors, a vibrant new landscape of jobs awaits those who embrace the AI revolution.

AI in marketing

While we have already seen the revolution in content creation by AI, 2024 will focus more on other aspects of marketing. AI will get more advanced in predicting by analyzing data helping marketers move faster. AI will transform from wordsmith to strategist, predicting customer actions with uncanny accuracy, suggesting dynamic pricing and hyper-personalized journeys, and optimizing campaigns in real-time.

Imagine knowing exactly when someone will buy, suggesting the perfect price for each individual, and crafting a unique path for every customer – all powered by this data-driven seer. This won’t be just personalized ads anymore, it will be marketing infused with precognition, understanding customers intuitively and anticipating their every move.

Deepfakes will be more advanced

Not everything can be good. We will see more advanced versions of deepfakes in 2024. A recent study by MIT Technology Review found that deepfakes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with 82% of participants unable to reliably distinguish real from fake video in some cases. This poses a serious threat to trust in media, politics, and even personal relationships.

Advancements in AI will make deepfakes even harder to detect, while the increasing availability of these tools through online marketplaces will put them into the hands of anyone with an agenda. We’ve already seen instances of malicious deepfakes, such as a fake video of Elon Musk promoting a cryptocurrency scam that briefly drove its price up. Countries like Germany, have already implemented laws against the creation and dissemination of harmful deepfakes while others are debating on how to address this issue.

AI Video and Music will be more mainstream

We are going to see more AI generated songs, videos in the mainstream media. Although, we are already seeing AI generated images on many newspapers, magazines and videos, its going to get even more exciting. Companies like OnePlus added AI generated music players in their phones which creates music as per your preference and mood.

In fact, Suno AI, an artificial intelligence for creating songs also partnered with Microsoft to feature an AI song and music generator to make it more accessible on the AI chatbot – Copilot.

AI in healthcare

2024 won’t be the year of flying robot doctors curing your sniffles with lasers, but you will see AI silently revolutionizing healthcare in the back office this year. See it as an tireless medical assistant, devouring mountains of data to make doctors’ lives easier. Think AI algorithms scrutinizing mammograms to detect cancer earlier, analyzing vital signs to whisper warnings of brewing sepsis, or predicting a diabetic patient’s blood sugar spike to prevent an emergency.

This isn’t about replacing doctors with robots, but about augmenting their expertise. AI will personalize treatment plans, automate tedious tasks like scheduling and paperwork, and ultimately free them to focus on what matters most. 2024 won’t be the year of sci-fi medicine, but it will be a crucial step towards precision healthcare tailored to each individual, powered by the tireless work of our new digital colleagues.

Government will start using AI for development

Governments are rapidly realizing the potential of AI to streamline their often-cumbersome workflows. Expect 2024 to see a significant surge in AI adoption across various government departments, with the aim of boosting efficiency, transparency, and even public engagement. It will be used in analyzing vast datasets to predict infrastructure needs, automating permit approvals, personalizing tax filing and more. In fact, Estonia has already integrated AI into various facets of their administration, including using AI chatbots to answer citizen inquiries and even employing an AI-powered judge to handle certain legal disputes. However, as with any powerful technology, ethical considerations and potential pitfalls accompany AI use in government. Concerns over data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the potential for job displacement need careful attention.

Conclusion

AI is advancing rapidly in 2024, with amazing innovations and new perspectives from AI agents. The EU’s new law on AI sets the bar for global norms and raises questions about face recognition and bias in algorithms. Google’s SGE shows how generative AI can make search engines more engaging and helpful. Creative fields see a boost from multimodal teamwork, and the job market changes with new possibilities in AI domains. Marketing uses AI to predict and understand customers better. But there are also risks from deepfakes, which need careful regulation to prevent harm. AI is transforming healthcare, government, and media, making 2024 a key year for building a responsible and cooperative future with AI.
